I realised something yesterday. It was a simple realisation, yet a very important one. I realised that for me, to best remember an experience, is to remember the trivial things. A passing comment, a bad joke, a grossly mistranslated sign. The trivial things are things that jog my memories of times abroad. Last year in Buenos Aires I had the unfortunate luck of losing my bag. With that bag I lost my passport, my wallet, my credit cards. But more than anything else, I lost my diary. In it were the seemingly useless facts and small anecdotes from my 3 months in South America - in hindsight, they were priceless.
So with that epiphany, I realised that this blog has to be about the trivial things. The things that might seem weird, insignificant, insanely hilarious. This blog should not be a recount of events. Not facts. Not statistics. Because above all I am doing this for me, to remember what will most likely be some of the best times of my life.

Para preparar por mi vacación a México
I figure since I'm trying to get back into the swing of things, I should write a few posts to get things rolling again...
Today I spent some time trawling the interweb for all things Mexico. As you would expect, this no doubt affects excitement levels.
I had a few moments (more like hours) of panic three days ago when I thought this trip might be out of the picture. Let's just say it involved concrete, a skateboard and myself.
Since there is nothing of actual substance in this post, I figured I'd upload my in-progress-list-for-what-to-pack-for-the-trip. Here it is:

The bug has bitten once again
tomthetripper is back. With less than a month till I head to Mexico for a month intensive language course in the cultural hub that is Oaxaca, I figured it was time to breathe some much needed life to this blog. I feel like the nature of this trip will be more conducive to a regular blog - I have a month in one place, staying with a Mexican family. I will also have my laptop. It's been almost a year since the last post - more adventures await in the coming months...let's see what happens.
