I realised something yesterday. It was a simple realisation, yet a very important one. I realised that for me, to best remember an experience, is to remember the trivial things. A passing comment, a bad joke, a grossly mistranslated sign. The trivial things are things that jog my memories of times abroad. Last year in Buenos Aires I had the unfortunate luck of losing my bag. With that bag I lost my passport, my wallet, my credit cards. But more than anything else, I lost my diary. In it were the seemingly useless facts and small anecdotes from my 3 months in South America - in hindsight, they were priceless.
So with that epiphany, I realised that this blog has to be about the trivial things. The things that might seem weird, insignificant, insanely hilarious. This blog should not be a recount of events. Not facts. Not statistics. Because above all I am doing this for me, to remember what will most likely be some of the best times of my life.
